Supervisor Rowe Celebrates National Night Out In the Third District

National Night Out (NNO) is an annual community-building campaign designed to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances. NNO events were held last week in six different communities around San Bernardino County's Third District. Supervisor Rowe had the honor to celebrate with first responders and residents in Yucaipa and Loma Linda.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department provides police service to both communities. In Yucaipa, Lieutenant Robert Warrick brought his family for one of his last official duties in the city before he transfers to the Morongo Basin Sheriff's Station to serve as their new captain. In Loma Linda, Sheriff's Central Station representatives in attendance included Phil Dupper, who pulls down double duty as a lieutenant with the Sheriff's Department and the mayor of Loma Linda!

Operation Hammer Strike Approaches the One Year Mark

With the one year anniversary of the start of Operation Hammer Strike nearing, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department continues to have success in shutting down illegal cannabis operations.

During the final weeks of July, investigators from the Sheriff's Marijuana Enforcement Team (MET) served 36 search warrants in Twentynine Palms, Joshua Tree, Yucca Valley, Morongo Valley, Lucerne Valley, Highland, and other locations around the county. These warrants resulted in the arrest of 31 suspects, as well as the seizure of 35,965 marijuana plants, 8,384 pounds of processed marijuana, and over $96,000.00 in cash.

During this same time frame, investigators eradicated over 200 greenhouses found at these locations, mitigated three THC extraction labs, and two electrical bypasses. Twelve guns, a stolen vehicle, and a stolen handgun were among the items that were also found at several of these locations.

Passenger Service Is Now Available At San Bernardino International Airport

Breeze Airways initiated passenger service at San Bernardino International Airport (SBD) on Thursday, August 4. The company joins a long list of aviation companies ready to invest in the future of SBD and the Inland Empire by offering daily flights to San Francisco and Provo, Utah. This new travel option gives consumers an affordable alternative to reach the Bay Area with flights priced as low as $39 and parking fees capped at $5 per day.

Pictured along with Supervisor Rowe are former County Supervisor Josie Gonzales and Highland May Pro Tem Penny Lilburn, who attended the celebration for the maiden flight from SBD to San Francisco. Other dignitaries on the trip included Provo Mayor Michelle Kaufusi, Colton Mayor Frank Navarro, and Breeze Airways president Tom Doxey.

The importance of this service cannot be understated. As the Inland Empire continues to lead the state’s economic recovery, SBD is poised to take a leading role in that continued growth. Learn more by visiting flybreeze.com.

Happy Birthday, Joshua Tree National Park!

This week marked the 86th anniversary of the signing of the proclamation establishing Joshua Tree National Monument. This proclamation protected over 800,000 acres of gorgeous desert land for future generations. In 1994, the status was changed to make the Monument a full-fledged National Park. This new designation created a mission to conserve the ecological, cultural, historical, and scientific value of the area. You can find out more about that mission and the things that make the park a national treasure when you visit their official website.

Joshua Tree National Park is also a popular observation site for amateur stargazers, thanks to the naturally occurring dark night skies. A great way to experience this is coming in September during the annual Night Sky Festival. Visitors can take part in telescope viewings led by astronomers, educational lectures about the heavenly bodies, a night sky photography workshop, and much more.

To learn more and make reservations to attend, visit NightSkyFestival.org.

Back To School Safety Reminder

Thanks to the California Highway Patrol - Arrowhead station for this valuable reminder about school bus safety. Drivers should always watch for school buses as they stop to pick up or drop off students. The buses will activate their yellow lights and turn signals first, then activate the flashing red lights.

A school bus stop sign is no different than any other stop sign. Drivers must come to a complete stop in their lane and wait for the lights to be turned off before proceeding. Patience is recommended for all drivers, as there may be nowhere for the bus to pull off and let cars pass before the next stop is made.

Each of us can make a difference when it comes to the safety of students in each community throughout the county. Your cooperation and awareness will make it a safer year for all of them. STOP for the reds, STOP for the kids!
